PRTR Non-Point Source: Agriculture and Pesticide Survey Completed for Rayong Province

Pesticides represent approximately 25% of the chemical substances, in terms of number of products, under the PRTR pilot in Rayong. Therefore, the Pollution Control Department (PCD) commissioned an extensive field survey of pesticide use by farmers in Rayong province to Panya Consultants Co., Ltd., who recently submitted their final report.

In the survey, 612 questionnaires were distributed and collected from farmers in Rayong province for data on the use of 27 target chemical substances for 13 commercial crops, namely rice, pineapple, cassava, Long Kong, sugarcane, durian, mango, rambutan, jackfruit, mangosteen, coconut, rubber, and oil palm. The result shows that only 9 chemicals out of the 27 are practically used in Rayong. The result also shows the amount of chemical applied by kg/rai/year base for each crop type. The data will be used to estimate non-point source emissions from the agriculture sector.
