Care Worker Training was Conducted

From 30th September till 4th October in 2013, Care Worker Training in Thailand was conducted. "Care Worker" means "Helper" in the context of Japan on elderly area. In Thailand, there is no Care Worker system yet, and community volunteers have assisted Thai elderly until today. LTOP project considers these volunteers are the great resource, therefore, we plans to further develop their skills through Care Worker Training to make them to be the implementers of model services in 6 project sites.

5 Care Worker candidates from each site joined the training at a hotel in Nonthaburi province. Prior to the training, there were several preparation meetings on the curriculum. To make the contents easier for the trainees, various teaching methods including utilizing pictures rather than lecture style were introduced. Sessions on nutrition, first aid, rehabilitation, and exercise for the elderly etc were taught mostly with action and practice.

One notable thing is that ex-trainees of Japan training on Care Management conducted session successfully as resource persons. With demonstrating role play of stakeholders meeting, they explained the necessity of collaboration between Care Managers, Care Workers and other stakeholders to assist elderly adequately.

Newborn Care Workers now will go back to their sites and share their knowledge and skills gained from this training to local volunteers.
