The Global Health Diplomacy workshop was held 24-26 April 2017, at Sampran Riverside, Nakhon Pathom, Thailand. It was organized by Ministry of Public Health in Thailand, International Health Policy Program Foundation and Thai Health Promotion Foundation.
The workshop has been held for seven years. Originally, the workshop aimed at capacity building for next generation of leaders in global health diplomacy in Thailand. However, now it has evolved from a nation to an international workshop to provide opportunities for future leaders not only from Thailand but also from ASEAN countries to strengthen their networking and partnerships in global health.
This year, approximately 25 participants from Lao PDR, Viet Nam, Philippines, Japan, and Thailand had joined in this 3-day workshop. It was organized to develop their abilities to participate more actively in World Health Assembly and at the other international arenas by offering programs to deepen understanding on the latest issues in global health, strategic negotiation and leading skills of discussion at international conferences, policy formulation and the many others. It was conducted in interactive manners such as role play and group discussion.
The participants from various countries engaged in the program enthusiastically, and they have built friendships through the program. It is hoped that they will utilize the network they made and will work together beyond borders to tackle the challenges in global health.
This year, JICA and our project have contributed to this capacity building program for young leaders of global health diplomacy by providing Japanese resource persons to share Japanese experience and their knowledge.
