The Second Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) Meeting: The Partnership Project for Global Health and Universal Health Coverage (GLO+UHC)

BANGKOK, 17 August 2017 – The officials from the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), the National Health Security Office (NHSO) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) gathered at the Office of the MOPH Permanent Secretary's Chainart Narendhorn Room for the second Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) Meeting for the Partnership Project for Global Health and Universal Health Coverage (GLO+UHC).

Started with the opening remarks by His Excellency Clinical Professor Piyasakol SAKOLSATAYADORN, Minister of Public Health and JICA Vice President for Human Security and Global Health, Dr. Takao TODA, the meeting was jointly chaired by MOPH, NHSO, and JICA to review the overall progress and achievement during the Project's first-year implementation, as well as to discuss major issues in connection with the Project.

The Project's progress thus far has been : (i) an analysis of the overarching Thai UHC issues and possible communication platforms, (ii) an examination of the Thai health system (based on WHO's health system conceptual framework of the six building blocks) to identify current achievements, gaps and potential areas for improvement, and exploring global outreach activities to strengthen capacities of other countries in striving towards UHC, and (III) an advocacy plan for global health diplomacy with the aim of producing and strengthening the capacity of the next generation of global health leaders for the world stage.

Upcoming activities of the project were agreed, with Chairs of Working Teams (WT) finalized and approved by the Joint Project Management Team (JPMT), which consists of JICA expert, and representatives from NHSO and MOPH, who will communicate and meet regularly on the Project's updates, monitor progress and revise work plan.

The JICA expert team and their Thai multi-agency counterparts will closely collaborate based on today's discussions and agreed plan for the coming year.
