The Duterte Administration in the Philippines carries on with the reform agenda for the health sector, anchored in good governance and inclusive growth that reduce poverty and aim for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The Department of Health, Philippines (DOH) has strong intention to move agenda forward by convening the consultative meeting during 18-20 September 2017.

Dr.Viroj Tangcharoensathien and his team were invited to share experiences of Thailand on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and building up capacities of health policy and systems research (HPSR) during 18-20 September 2017. Agenda of discussion included strengthening health systems, building up capacity of young researchers and establishment of HPSR Institute which can be a think tank in generating evidence for policy development of the country.

Dr Warisa Panichkriangkrai, supported by JICA under The Partnership Project for Global Health and Universal Health Coverage, to share Thailand's experience on capacity building of young fellows through the HPSR fellowship program. The program comprises of three phases; 1) apprenticeship to ensure fellows are "the best seeds" by involving research and policy process, 2) postgraduate training to ensure fellows get the best training institute, and their study topic is relevant to policy, and 3) postdoctoral program to ensure fellows advance their expertise to lead various key emerging national priority programs.

The Partnership Project for Global Health and Universal Health Coverage was also introduced in order to extend the network and share expertise from Japan and Thailand to Philippines.
