Workshop for learning about the Japan's medical fee system in Thailand

The National Health Security Office, The Ministry of Public Health in Thailand, JICA and GLO+UHC Project Office held a workshop for learning about the Japan's medical fee system in Bangkok, Thailand from 19-21 August 2019. Guest lecturer was invited from Japan, and twenty participants from the medical fee council and the government official in Bangkok metropolitan area joined the workshop.

One of the main objectives for the workshop was to understand thoughts and contexts of the Japan's medical fee system, particularly of the way of designing medical fee list in Japan. Furthermore, the workshop aimed to discuss a new medical fee system which will be implemented in Bangkok area. Also, the workshop made preparation for the study visit on management and operations at the Central Social Insurance Medical Council of the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare (MHLW) in Japan, which will be held from 27 October to 2 November 2019.

The workshop also provided the participants of the trip in October with the opportunities to strengthen their level of knowledge on the medical insurance system in Japan, encouraging them to think about a medical insurance system in Thailand in the future. This project has supported to the capacity building of government officials in Thailand through planning and implementing the workshop, leveraging the Japan's expertise in this field, and facilitating discussions of new initiatives in Thailand.
