Study visit "Community Health in Saku area, Nagano Prefecture, Japan"

Members of the Health Service Standard and Quality Control Board of Thailand's National Health Security Office visited Saku city and Kawakami village in Nagano prefecture in December 2019 to learn about community health activities in the area. Thailand currently promotes decentralization, and local governments are facing various challenges to provide better healthcare services with active participation from residents.

Through this visit, all of the members had opportunities to attend lectures and Q&A sessions on integrated community care, community-based health promotion activities, health and welfare services managed by citizens, rural medicine for farmers, medicine in peripheral area and health promotion with industry in the Saku area. The members also had a chance to share Thai health care delivery system with the staff at visited sites. These were meaningful and mutual learning opportunities.

In promoting universal health coverage, it is one of the common and important agendas for Japan and Thailand to provide appropriate and high-quality health promotion, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation services at affordable costs without regional inequity. The project will continuously support the opportunities for both countries to learn from each other.
