On 23rd February 2021, the 1st Joint Project Management Team (JPMT) Meeting of the Partnership Project for Global Health and Universal Health Coverage (GLO+UHC) Phase 2 was held at Global Health Division meeting room, Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), Thailand.

The JPMT mainly consists of three stakeholders, Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), National Health Security Office (NHSO), and the JICA expert team. Since this was the 1st JPMT meeting, the representatives from JICA Thailand Office joined as well.

The meeting was chaired by Ms. Wilailuk Wisasa, Project Manager, Acting Bureau Director of International Affairs on UHC, NHSO.

Mr. Yuasa, the Senior Representative of JICA Thailand Office, gave an opening remark on the achievements of the Phase 1 and mentioned that the Phase 2 would continue to work on moving the agenda of global health security forward. Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is now more important than ever due to the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19, as UHC is essential for improving health emergency responsiveness and preparedness.

Dr. Walaiporn Patcharanarumol, Project Manager, Director of Global Health Division, MOPH stated that this JPMT meeting would be the official kick-off of the Phase 2. She emphasized that in the Phase 2, the project would put more effort in disseminating UHC by sharing the experience and knowledge of Thailand and Japan to other countries. Dr. Takuma Kato, Chief Advisor, agreed and stated that the project would start from assessing the needs of other participating countries.

In this JPMT meeting, the members discussed which areas to focus and how the project would work to improve and promote UHC in Thailand and other participating countries.
