Department of Rail Transport and JICA Expert Team inspect field surveys for the Railway Demand Forecast Model

On October 21, 2022, the Department of Rail Transport (DRT) and JICA Expert Team (JET) jointly inspected field transport surveys for the M-MAP2 project. The survey questionnaire includes the personal aspect of choosing a rail route, attitude towards the public transport service, access to the transport hub, impact on travel during the COVID-19 pandemic, etc.

In the morning, DRT and JET visited Charan 13 Station at MRT Blue Line to inspect the following three surveys. On the station platform, Rail Route Choice survey and Station Access survey were conducted to collect the travel behavior of the railway user. Whereas on the bus stop below the station, the Main Mode Choice survey was conducted to understand the mode choice of the residents and workers around the station.

In the afternoon DRT and JET took another inspection for the Transport Hub survey at the Old Southern Bangkok Bus Terminal (Pin Klao Van Terminal). The Transport Hub survey targets the users who uses this van terminal as a hub to travel outside Bangkok Metropolitan Area.

All field surveys in the first phase are scheduled to be completed within November 2022. All of those collected data will be utilized for the development of the Railway Demand Forecast Model which will be tailored specifically for policy evaluation in the urban rail master plan in Bangkok.
