Tuvalu is the beautiful country with the blue ocean and brightly gentle people. However, we have received worldwide attention as it is feared to be the first country to be submerged underwater due to the impact of global warming.

The land consists of pieces of coral, pieces of shells, and sand made of forams (for instance, the star-shaped one pictured below). These things are repeatedly drifting to and fro between the ocean and seashore. We are living on the working of the nature.

We can say that we are living on these gifts from the nature, but now the coral is deteriorating and the Foram sand quantity is decreasing.

The Foram is born in the ocean and drift to the seashore. Though the project, we inspect each process of the Foram sand life cycle to identify and remove the factor prevent this cycle.

In this project, we are working for regeneration of the stable island.

Although it will take long time, we can’t get the sustainable environment only by the artificial construction works. We are working using Japanese cutting-edge technology.

We launched the project with the coordinator came from Japan on July 30th.The 22nd September, we invited the short-term experts in ecology, coastal technology and remote sensing. They started to research coast structure and the biology of the Foram. This project will continue for five years. Our final goal is recreating the beach with cooperation of Japan and Tuvalu.
