Dr. Sugiwaka Teruo, a Japanese expert on Feeding & Management, came to Vietnam as the project’s invitation with the role of short term expert of JICA project from 25 September to 30 November, 2007. During his assignment, he conducted 2 Lt training courses at STED, Ba vi center with total attendance of 2 training courses of around 16 participants coming from 4 project target areas: Thanh Hoa, Hung Yen , Vinh Tuong and Moc Chau.

The training courses aimed at providing participants with such following contents:

  • Feeding and management
  • Feed nutrients and feed method
  • How to provide feed, water and mineral for dairy cattle
  • Silage making and urea treated rice-straw method
  • Cow shed problems and solutions
  • Body condition score
  • Agricultural by-products and biogas treatment
  • Hoof care
  • Milking method and mastitis prevention

Specifically, in the courses, there was combination between theory and practice. All the LT had chance to practice making silage, doing urea treated rice straw, etc at farms. Theories were integrated with practice so that participants could really know how to apply what they had learnt in to the real farming situations.
Dr. Sugiwaka corporate with Dr. Norio Saito, the chief advisor of the project, to compile “milking hygiene and mastitis control manual” from Japanese into English then was translated into Vietnamese by the project’s secretaries and published in 2008.
