On 11th September 2009, the project held a farmer seminar about Urea Treated Rice Straw (UTRS) in Vinh Thinh. Although rice straw was available in the area, nearly no dairy farmers there had utilized it effectively to feed their cows. Before the seminar, the project had held a demonstration on UTRS in a model farm then some farmers came and observed. The demonstration was seen to be useful for the farmers who participated. So, the project decided to organize this seminar to introduce UTRS technique, which would help the farmer to preserve rice straw as a feed for winter, increasing the feed supply to their cows.

The process of making UTRS was quite simple and the farmers found it easy practice. The project expected the dairy farmers to practice this technique regularly to supply enough feed of good quality for dairy cattle in the area.
