ZIM-SHEP team conducted a gender awareness training in Chitora Irrigation scheme in Mashonaland East Province on 29th April 2021. The training was conducted following the Covid-19 regulations. We had around 35-40 farmers both men and women.
In the training, we mainly conducted the following exercises such as Roles and Responsibilities, Access and Control of resources, Daily calendar making. Since these exercises are done by farmers, they can realize the challenges and needs for improving their farming activities by themselves through exercises and presentation
After the training, a male farmer said "The training was so fruitful. I was thinking that men do more farming activities than women. However, we realized that women do a lot more house chores as well as farming related activities. I realized that my wife is overburdened by work. We now realized the necessary points of intervention, and can now help each other. " ZIM-SHEP team will come back to the scheme for Baseline survey after SHEP ToT.
