
Here we can take a look at the kinds of jobs Japanese immigrants did after they arrived overseas in their new homes.
In Brazil, for example, they grew coffee, cotton, and black pepper, as well as fruits and vegetables. These are replicas of the crops they grew which you can touch if you want.
There were other jobs available besides farming. The kinds of jobs available to immigrants were different depending on when they came and which country they arrived in. You can see the kinds of places in which they spent their time from the photos here. Near the back of the exhibit, you can find a replica of a “yorozuya” storefront. Yorozuya were a kind of general store that Japanese immigrants to the United States would establish for selling Japanese products. You can see the kinds of things they sold here.
