On behalf of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and everyone committed to the advancement of international cooperation, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the beloved family and friends of Mr. OKAMOTO Yukio.
Mr. OKAMOTO was Japan’s leading expert on diplomacy and national security. Having served several important positions, such as the Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on Reconstruction of Iraq, Mr. OKAMOTO consistently advocated the significance of international cooperation.
As JICA Special Advisor, he provided invaluable guidance to our organization. While maintaining a global perspective, he continuously emphasized the importance of the field-level dialogues. He provided us with much insightful advice on various development issues, including the reconstruction of Iraq and the socio-economic development of Africa.
In pursuance of Mr. OKAMOTO’s wish to realize Japan’s enduring prosperity through international cooperation, JICA will tread his footsteps in contributing further to the socio-economic development and peacebuilding of developing countries. While thinking back on his great achievements in days past, it is my sincere hope that he is now resting in peace.
