JICA President Kitaoka held talks with Armenian President Sarkissian

On July 26, JICA President KITAOKA Shinichi held talks with Armenian President Armen Sarkissian in Tokyo.

President Kitaoka touched upon the fact that a memorial for the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake has been erected beside a memorial for the victims of the Spitak earthquake, where he had visited during an official trip to Armenia. He remarked that since the two countries have frequent natural disasters in common, a friendly and mutually sympathetic relationship has been established between them. As for JICA's efforts in Armenia, he confirmed his intention for continued cooperation in the areas of infrastructure and human resource development. Furthermore, he expressed his expectations for the progress of the bilateral talks in order to enhance the cooperative relationship between the two countries.

President Sarkissian conveyed his gratitude for Japan's cooperation and spoke about the importance of human resource development in his country's advancement. In particular, he mentioned his expectations for Japan's support towards human resource development in the field of science and technology, including through collaboration with Japanese companies and universities.

JICA will continue to promote Armenia’s economic and social advancement through multi-faceted cooperation mainly in the areas of infrastructure and human resource development.
