On February 8, JICA President Tanaka Akihiko met with President of the Republic of Kenya (and Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces) William Ruto in Tokyo.

At the opening of the meeting, President Tanaka welcomed the reunion, being their first since 2013, and expressed his high regard for President Ruto's leadership at home and abroad.

In response, President Ruto offered words of gratitude for JICA's wide-ranging cooperation in Kenya.

They also exchanged views on the promotion of the development of the Mombasa region, which is the gateway to East Africa and which Japan has long supported, as well as cooperation in the energy and agricultural sectors, the promotion of partnerships between Japan and Kenya's research institute in the health sector, and more.
