JICA President Tanaka Met with Green Climate Fund Executive Director Duarte

On November 20, JICA President Tanaka Akihiko met with Green Climate Fund (GCF) Executive Director Mafalda Duarte.
Executive Director Duarte, who took office in August 2023, emphasized the importance of climate change adaptation measures and the promotion of private sector cooperation. She also expressed her intention to work on organizational reforms that would enable developing countries to more easily access GCF funds. Additionally, she expressed her hope for the further cooperation with JICA to promote climate change countermeasures.
President Tanaka explained that JICA had announced its sustainability policy in November 2023, and that the implementation of this policy would aim to implement all new projects in a manner aligned with the goals of the Paris Agreement. He also highlighted the strong compatibility between the policy and GCF projects, concluding by committing to further cooperation with GCF.
JICA will continue to work with the GCF and other relevant organizations to address global challenges such as climate change in various countries and regions.
