JICA President Tanaka Met with Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction Mr. Kishore

JICA President Tanaka Akihiko met with Mr. Kamal Kishore, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Disaster Risk Reduction and Head of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) at JICA Headquarters on June 18.

President Tanaka congratulated the Special Representative Kishore on his new assignment, and expressed his appreciation for the many years of collaboration with JICA while Special Representative Kishore served as Head of the Department of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in India.

In response, Special Representative Kishore expressed his delight with his visit to Japan shortly after assuming the office. He also expressed his gratitude and expectations for JICA’s leadership toward accelerating the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

Both exchanged views on various matters related to disaster risk reduction, including the importance of the “Early Warnings for All” initiative advocated by the UN Secretary-General, how Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and land-locked developing countries should be supported, and the engagement of the private sector.
