At the meeting, JICA President Tanaka mentioned the Government of Japan’s revision of the Development Cooperation Charter last year and emphasized the importance of co-creation with various partners, including business sector and research institutes, to realize human security through JICA cooperation. He specifically touched on four key points for the further development of Latin America and the Caribbean region: Nikkei (people of Japanese immigrants and their descent) communities, private sector development, further utilization of science and technology, and enhanced partnerships. Based on these points, he underscored the importance of greater cooperation with regional partners, including the Central American Integration Organization (SICA) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), as well as the broader utilization of innovations in science and technology.
The ambassadors expressed their deep trust and appreciation for JICA’s longstanding cooperation in the region over the years. Additionally, they voiced their expectations for JICA’s continued contributions in utilizing science and technology, fostering private-sector collaboration, and applying Japanese disaster prevention technologies and expertise.
