JICA President Tanaka Met with President of Palau Whipps

On February 12, JICA President Tanaka Akihiko met with President Surangel S. Whipps, Jr., of the Republic of Palau in Tokyo.
At the outset, President Tanaka congratulated President Whipps on his second term in office and expressed appreciation for Palau’s continued understanding and support in JICA’s projects. He also reaffirmed JICA’s cooperation in Palau’s development, building on the outcomes of the 10th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM10) held in Tokyo last year, with the aim of further strengthening bilateral relations.
In response, President Whipps conveyed gratitude for JICA's cooperation in infrastructure development and climate change countermeasures in Palau over the years. He also shared his hope to continue deepening cooperation and maintaining the tokubetsu (special) relationship between the two countries.
Both parties further exchanged a wide range of views on potential areas for future cooperation, particularly in sustainable economic and social development.
