JICA President Tanaka Attended Zimbabwe National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka and Met with President of Zimbabwe Munangagwa

On July 16, JICA President Tanaka Akihiko visited the Zimbabwe National Day event at the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan and met with President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

During the national day event, President Mnangagwa conveyed a congratulatory message, and a beautiful traditional Zimbabwean dance was performed. With many attendees, the venue provided an opportunity to experience Zimbabwe.

At the outset of the meeting, President Tanaka outlined JICA’s initiatives in promoting rice cultivation in Zimbabwe. He also expressed his hope for future collaboration to advance the country’s development.

In response, President Mnangagwa expressed his gratitude for JICA's continued cooperation in Zimbabwe.

Both parties further exchanged views on a wide range of topics, including industrial development and the field of agriculture.

Also present at the meeting was Mr. Tsuboi Tatsushi, a former JICA Senior Adviser for Rice Farming Technology, known as “Mr. NERICA (New Rice for Africa)”, who contributed significantly to the promotion of rice cultivation in the country. As he is from Kitsuki City in Oita Prefecture, Mayor Nagamatsu Satoru of Kitsuki City, who is initiating exchanges between Zimbabwe and the City, was also in attendance. Mr. Tsuboi directly explained the achievements in rice cultivation promotion in the country to President Mnangagwa, while Mayor Nagamatsu shared his aspirations for future exchanges. In response, President Mnangagwa expressed his gratitude for the advancement of rice cultivation in Zimbabwe and looked forward to future collaboration with Kitsuki City.
