JICA Executive Senior Vice President Miyazaki Met with World Meteorological Organization Secretary-General Celeste Saulo

On May 15, JICA Executive Senior Vice President Miyazaki Katsura met with World Meteorological Organization Secretary-General Celeste Saulo at JICA Headquarters in Tokyo.
At the outset, Executive Senior Vice President Miyazaki welcomed the Secretary-General Saulo’s visit to JICA for the first time since 2023 and explained JICA’s cooperation strategy on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) as well as cooperation efforts on DRR and the meteorological sector. She also expressed JICA’s commitment to continuing cooperation in these sectors.
In response, Secretary-General Celeste Saulo referred to her previous visit as Director of the National Meteorological Service of Argentina, during which she engaged in the SATREPS (Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development) program in collaboration with JICA, and stated that she was looking forward to exchanging views with JICA this time representing the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
Both parties further exchanged views on future cooperation between WMO and JICA in the meteorological sector, and collaborative efforts for capacity development for early warning and meteorological services in developing countries.
