On January 10, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a loan agreement with the Government of the Republic of Senegal in Dakar to provide a Japanese ODA loan of up to 7.169 billion yen for the Project for Irrigated Rice Production in the Senegal River Valley.
The objective of this project is to improve productivity of irrigated rice and ensure food security in Senegal by rehabilitating and/or expanding irrigated fields, procuring agricultural machinery, strengthening the maintenance and management system of irrigation facilities, and supporting farming management in the Senegal River basin, the largest rice production area in Senegal. This project will contribute to the achievement of SDGs Goal 2.
