Signing of Japanese ODA Loan Agreement with Mauritius: Supporting COVID-19 crisis response through budget support

On February 24 , the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a loan agreement with the Government of the Republic of Mauritius in Port Louis and Tokyo to provide a Japanese ODA loan of up to 30 billion yen for the COVID-19 Crisis Response Emergency Support Loan.

The objective of this program is to strengthen the health care system and social security, and provide financial support for economic activities in Mauritius, in order to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic through providing budget support, thereby contributing to the economic stabilization and development efforts of the country. This program will contribute to the achievement of SDGs Goals 1, 3 and 8.

The program will be co-financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB), and will contribute to the joint initiative by AfDB and the Government of Japan, called “Enhanced Private Sector Assistance for Africa (EPSA).”

(3) Tender announcement of initial procurement package for international competitive bidding on project construction: No work in conjunction with bidding is planned for this program loan.
