On September 26, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Royal Government of Bhutan in Thimphu, to provide grant aid of up to 2.994 billion yen for the Project for the Construction of Royal Centre for Infectious Diseases.

The objective of the project is to realize the proper diagnosis and treatment of serious infectious diseases, prevent the spread of infection effectively, and develop human resources with knowledge of infectious disease control. It will do so through the construction of a state-of-the-art “Royal Centre for Infectious Diseases” (RCID) and the provision of medical equipment in Thimphu, thereby contributing to the strengthening of infectious disease control in Bhutan. This project will also contribute to the achievement of SDGs Goal 3 (Good health and well-being).
