Reopening of the Ukraine Office

On November 1, 2023, JICA reopened its office in Kyiv, Ukraine.
JICA opened its office in Ukraine’s capital city of Kyiv in November 2017 and has been engaged in the formation and implementation of ODA projects in the country ever since. In light of Ukraine’s deteriorating situation, however, the office staff were evacuated to Japan and neighboring Moldova in January 2022, and since then, JICA has been cooperating with Ukraine remotely. However, in order to quickly and steadily realize this support in a wide range of fields, it was decided to reopen the Kyiv Office from November 1, 2023.
Leading up to this, in October 2022, the Japanese Embassy in Kyiv was reopened, and in September 2023, former Foreign Minister Hayashi announced that the JICA Ukraine office in Kyiv would be reopened soon.
