On November 6, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Phnom Penh to provide grant aid of up to 1,338 million yen for the Project for the Establishment of Nationwide Continuously Operating Reference Station Network.

In Cambodia, the implementation of measurements, topographic mapping, and civil engineering works at development sites are inefficient. The objective of the project is thus to promote development projects in the country by strengthening administrative services for land registration and land transactions. It will do so through the establishment of Continuously Operating Reference Station networks and the data center of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction’s General Department of Cadastre and Geography (GDCG) for rapid and accurate measurement.

Through its ongoing technical cooperation project, the Project on Establishment of Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) for Land Management and Infrastructure Development (2021-2023), JICA is establishing CORS networks and data centers for the pilot areas of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Stung Treng to enhance the operation and maintenance of the data center, and to promote the utilization of high-precision positioning information. By establishing CORS networks in Cambodia, this new project will contribute to expanding the outcome of the technical cooperation project across the country.

This project, by improving the urban living environment in Cambodia, will contribute to enhanced quality of life in the country, as well as to the achievement of SDGs Goals 9 (Industry, innovation and infrastructure) and 11 (Sustainable cities and communities).
