Signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation with Ministry of Health of Indonesia: Cost-sharing cooperation for medical personnel development to strengthen measures against non-communicable diseases

On August 1, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the Ministry of Health (MOH) of the Republic of Indonesia. The signing took place at JICA Headquarters in Tokyo between Deputy Minister and Director General of the Health Workforce of the MOH Arianti Anaya and Director General of the Human Development Department of JICA Haruko Kamei.
The purpose of the MoC is to foster specialists and develop professional healthcare personnel to strenghthen measures against the increasing numbers of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Indonesia. To this end, the MOH and JICA will undertake cost-sharing and cooperation, aiming to provide high-quality and advanced medical care in Indonesia.
JICA has been providing health cooperation in Indonesia for many years to tackle isses such as maternal and child health and infectious diseases. However, in recent years, demand for medical services for NCDs such as stroke and cancer has been increasing. Based on this MoC, JICA and MOH will further deepen existing cooperative relationships, promote the development of highly specialized human resources, and strengthen measures against NCDs.
