Announcing the Strategy for Climate Change Measures in Agricultural and Rural Development Cooperation
2024.11.11
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) formulated a Strategy for Climate Change Measures in Agricultural and Rural Development Cooperation in October 2024, as part of the JICA Global Agenda for Agricultural and Rural Development.
In recent years, climate-related natural disasters such as floods and droughts are increasingly threatening not only agricultural production but also the foundation of rural livelihoods. Addressing climate change and promoting sustainable agricultural and rural development cooperation in partner countries are critical and urgent issues for realizing the goal of “Human Security.”
This strategy clarifies the projected growing impacts of climate change on the agricultural and rural sectors, as well as the influence of JICA’s projects on climate change, and provides direction for JICA stakeholders in advancing specific initiatives. Moving forward, JICA will proceed with various measures in line with the strategy.
In addition, the full text of the strategy, along with a provisional English translation, has been published on the JICA website (link below). Reference materials on climate change measures will be uploaded as they become available.
