On March 27, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Republic of Fiji in the capital city Suva, to provide grant aid for the Project for the Development of Regional Centres for the Improvement of Meteorological Services and Disaster Risk Reduction in the Pacific Islands.

The objective of the Project is to enhance capacity of human resource development and quality management for observation data for meteorological services and early warning through construction of a building and provision of equipment for training center, instrument center and disaster risk reduction awareness facility for the pacific region, thereby contributing to enhancement of resilience to natural hazard and climate change in the Pacific.
