On April 4, 2024, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a loan agreement with the Banco Solidario S.A. (hereinafter, “Solidario”) in the Republic of Ecuador, for Private Sector Investment Finance Project, and held the signing ceremony on April 28.

The loan is co-financed with the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IDB Invest) under the CORE (Cooperation for Economic Recovery and Social Inclusion), a partnership framework between IDB Group and JICA.

5. Project Purpose
The project aims to improve the financial access of micro-businesses run by low- and middle-income people, including vulnerable groups (women, young people, and immigrants) in the Republic of Ecuador, by providing loans to Banco Solidario S.A., thereby contributing to improving the livelihoods of vulnerable groups, reducing inequality, and reducing poverty in the country.

6. Project Component
The Project provides loans to be sub-loaned through Solidario to micro-businesses run by low- and middle-income people, including vulnerable groups (women, young people, and immigrants) in the Republic of Ecuador. At least 50 per cent of JICA loan is utilized for loans to women-owned businesses.
