On November 14 in Brazil, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Climate Bonds Initiative (Climate Bonds), the UK-based international non-government organization working to mobilize global capital for climate action and resilience.

The purpose of the MOU is to establish a knowledge partnership between the two parties. Specifically, it envisions collaboration in the field of climate resilience and transition finance, a financial approach that aims to support transition towards a decarbonized society.

Climate Bonds has contributed to mobilizing capital for climate action through the development of standards, certifications, and policy tools related to bonds for climate action. JICA and Climate Bonds have been engaged in practical collaboration. In this August, Climate Bonds as a lecturer introduced Japan's Green Transformation (GX) strategy, the framework for transition finance, and reliable transition plans for achieving a decarbonized society in the clean energy training course for Asia and Pacific countries, the event co-organized by JICA and the Government of Singapore under the Japan-Singapore Partnership Programme for the 21st Century (JSPP21). Building on such collaboration, JICA and Climate Bonds signed the MOU on the occasion of the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, held in Belém, Brazil, to promote future partnership.

JICA aims to realize a world resilient to climate change and support the whole-of-society transition in developing countries, as outlined in the JICA Sustainability Policy.

Based on this MOU, JICA will continue to collaborate with development partners and contribute to promoting climate action in developing regions.
