Signing of Grant Agreement with Ukraine:Providing equipment for humanitarian mine action

On January 23, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of Ukraine, to provide grant aid of up to 4,000 million Japanese yen for the Programme for Emergency Response on Humanitarian Mine Action and UXO Clearance.

JICA has been providing cooperation through the “Emergency Recovery Plan (Phases 1-4)” for the people of Ukraine, who are facing severe hardships due to Russia's invasion. This assistance has included the provision of equipment in areas such as humanitarian mine action and unexploded ordnance (UXO) clearance, destruction waste management, power and energy, water supply, transportation, healthcare, education, agriculture, public broadcasting, logistics and municipal facilities.
This project aims to address the critical threat to human security posed by landmines and UXOs in Ukraine by providing equipment and materials necessary for humanitarian mine action. By leveraging the expertise and experience in mine action that Japan has cultivated over many years of international cooperation, the project contributes to establishing a safe environment for reconstruction and recovery.

The objective of the Programme is to promote smooth/rapid recovery (from war damage) through the procurement of equipment, materials and services necessary for mine clearance, medical assistance for victims and further damage avoidance, thereby contributing to emergency recovery and sustainable economic reconstruction in Ukraine.

Equipment for humanitarian mine action, including those for medical and health services and explosive ordnance risk education.

Bidding assistance, technical guidance for operation and maintenance of the facilities and equipment to be developed, installation, etc.
