On January 13, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in the capital city Islamabad, to provide grant aid for the Project for the Improvement of Child Health Care Facilities in South Punjab. The signatures were exchanged between Senior Joint Secretary (Japan) Miran Mohiyuddin Soomro of Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Chief Representative Miyata Naoaki of JICA Pakistan Office.

The Project aims to improve access to continuous maternal and child healthcare, an area where Japan has long cooperated, by improving newborn and child health care facilities that can also function as a disaster base hospital and thereby contributing to the international expansion of Japan's technologies.

The Project for the Improvement of Child Health Care Facilities in South Punjab

- Project Objective
The objective of the Project is to strengthen the diagnostic and treatment systems in the Children’s Hospital and Institute of Child Health, Multan and improve the function as an only specialized tertiary care hospital in the region through the expansion of the facility and the provision of medical equipment which are necessary to provide the healthcare services for high-risk neonates, infants and children with serious illness or injuries, thereby contributing to improving the quality of healthcare services for children in the southern Punjab and neighboring provinces.

- Maximum Grant Amount
2,910 million Japanese Yen

- Implementation Period (planned)
72 Months (including detailed design work and procurement)
1) Construction of the facility and delivery of the equipment are expected to be completed in 36 months.
2) The manufacturers’ warranty is for 12 months, and the maintenance contract is for 24 months after the end of the manufacturers’ warranty.
