On February 8, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), to provide grant aid for the Project for Promoting Climate Change Adaptation through Community-Led Approach in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The signatures were exchanged between Country Director and Representative Katy Ann Webley of UNOPS Afghanistan and Chief Representative Tosaka Sota of JICA Afghanistan.

This project aims to strengthen the capacity of target communities to respond to climate change‑related disaster risks through a community‑led approach that includes the development of disaster‑response facilities and the implementation of related trainings.

The objective of the Project is to strengthen the capacity of target communities to respond to disaster risks caused by climate change through the implementation of community-led facility development and training etc. for climate change adaptation, thereby contributing to the reduction of human and economic losses caused by climate change-induced disasters in Afghanistan.
