Signing of Grant Agreement with Mozambique: Contributing to the Reduction of Sediment Disasters through the Construction of Erosion Control and Drainage Facilities

On February 6, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Republic of Mozambique in the capital city Maputo, to provide grant aid for the Project for the Construction of Sabo and Drainage Facilities in Nacala City. The signatures were exchanged between Minister Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Mozambique and Chief Representative Otsuka Kazuki of JICA Mozambique.

This project aims to reduce the damage caused by sediment disaster to the urban areas, main roads, ports and other basic infrastructure in Nacala city through the construction of sediment control (hereafter referred to as “Sabo”) and drainage facilities, thereby contributing to improved living conditions and sustainable economic development.
