This project aims to establish a sustainable wastewater management system and promote its replication in other cities in Nepal by strengthening the technical, institutional, and organizational capacities of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Pokhara Metropolitan City, toward the realization of sustainable water resource management.

In addition, the project contributes to initiatives under JICA’s Clean City Initiative. During Japan's period of rapid economic growth, the country experienced swift urbanization and overcame the serious challenge of water pollution, accumulating extensive expertise in wastewater infrastructure and management — including the planning, construction, and maintenance of sewer networks, advanced water treatment technologies, and the use of on-site treatment facilities. The project aims to apply these hard-won experiences to collaborate with Nepal in developing technical standards and building local capacity, with the goal of establishing Japanese technologies and management approaches as a trusted option in Nepal's future urban development.
