Investment through JICA-Funded Trust Fund “TADAC” (Private Sector Investment Finance): Signing of Loan Agreement for the Operation, Maintenance, and Rehabilitation Project of the São Borja–Santo Tomé International Bridge between Brazil and Argentina
Through the Trust Fund for the Development of Latin America and the Caribbean (TADAC) funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Inter-American Development Bank’s investment arm (IDB Invest) signed a loan agreement on June 8 with CS Rodovias Mercosul S.A. for the São Borja–Santo Tomé International Bridge Operation, Maintenance and Rehabilitation Project (Brazil–Argentina). Under the project, IDB Invest and TADAC will each provide US$17.5 million in financing, totaling US$35 million.
The project aims to improve border-crossing efficiency, facilitate logistics, and promote regional economic development through the operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of the São Borja–Santo Tomé International Bridge and the Unified Border Facility, a key logistics corridor for trade between Brazil and Argentina. The project is expected to strengthen supply chains within MERCOSUR and facilitate regional trade, thereby supporting sustainable economic growth in both Brazil and Argentina.
(*Note) JICA commits USD 1.0 billion in the Trust Fund Achieving Development of Latin America and the Caribbean (TADAC). The Fund is established within the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the largest development finance institution in Latin America and the Caribbean region, and managed by IDB Invest, the private sector investment arm of the IDB Group. TADAC will co-finance alongside IDB Invest to support private sector initiatives that contribute to the achievement of the SDGs. This investment aims to reduce the SDGs financing gap in the region and contribute to its sustainable socioeconomic development.
