On August 28, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Republic of Mozambique in the capital city Maputo, to provide grant aid for the Project for the Reconstruction of Natete Bridge. The signatures were exchanged between Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Mozambican Communities Abroad Maria de Fatima Simao Manso of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Mozambique and Senior Representative Takahashi Sulimara of JICA Mozambique.

This project aims to ensure safe and reliable transportation along the Nacala Corridor by reconstructing a climate-resilient bridge over the Natete River in Ribaué District, Nampula Province. The existing Natete Bridge, located on National Road No. 13 along the Nacala Corridor, has suffered severe deterioration, including settlement of its pier and deformation of its superstructure caused by recent flooding. The new bridge will be designed to withstand increasingly severe floods resulting from climate change. This project is also expected to contribute to the socioeconomic development of the region by removing a critical bottleneck of the transportation network along the Nacala Corridor. It is aligned with the Government of Mozambique's Five-Year Program (2025-2029), which prioritizes the promotion of economic activities through the development of quality infrastructure.
