On September 7, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in the capital city Islamabad, to provide grant aid for the Project for Flood Protection and Dike Improvement on Indus River in Sindh Province. The signatures were exchanged between Additional Secretary Sabina Qureshi of Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Senior Representative Sugawara Takayuki of JICA Pakistan Office.

- Project Objective
The objective of the Project is to reduce the risk of dike breaches in the target sections in the lower Indus River Basin of Larkana District, Sindh Province, and to reduce the disaster-related risk of economic losses in Larkana District and surrounding areas and build a resilient disaster-resilient society through the rehabilitation and strengthening of dikes and related works, thereby contributing to the enhancement of human security and the improvement of social infrastructure in Pakistan.
