On October 9, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Republic of Benin in Cotonou City, to provide grant aid for “The Project for the Construction of the Flyover of Vêdoko Intersection in Cotonou City (Phase 2)”. The signatures were exchanged between Minister of Economy and Finance in charge of external resources mobilisation and debt management Hugues Oscar Lokossou of the Republic of Benin and Chief Representative Shibata Kazunao of JICA Benin Office.

This project entails the construction of a flyover (eastbound to westbound) at the Vèdoko Intersection as the successor to Phase 1 (westbound to eastbound). Upon completion of both phases, traffic congestion at the Vèdoko Intersection, a critical transport node in Benin, is expected to be significantly reduced, thereby contributing to enhanced logistics efficiency in Benin and neighboring countries.

The Government of Japan has positioned the "West Africa Growth Ring," which includes Benin, as one of the three priority regions for corridor development in Africa, alongside the Nacala Corridor and the Northern Corridor. The project is thus expected to contribute to the realization of this regional development strategy.

The project outline is explained below.
