Investment through JICA-Funded Trust Fund ‘TADAC’ (Private Sector Investment Finance): Signing of Loan Agreement for the Beverage Recycling Support Project in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago
2026.10.15
On July 17, through the Trust Fund Achieving Development of Latin America and the Caribbean (TADAC *) , invested by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Inter-American Investment Company (IDB Invest) signed a loan agreement with the ANSA McAL Group (ANSA McAL), one of the largest conglomerates in the Caribbean region, and its beverage subsidiary, Caribbean Development Company Limited (CDC).
Under this project, a total financing facility of up to USD 500 million has been approved, which includes a USD 50 million loan contribution from TADAC.
This loan will support equipment upgrades for the conglomerate, which operates the only glass container recycling model in the Caribbean region. By promoting waste reduction and resource recycling, the project aims to establish a regional role model for sustainable waste management. In Trinidad and Tobago, where energy dependence is high and non-energy exports account for only 20% of total exports, the project will support the expansion of manufacturing exports, such as beverages and glass products. By promoting the diversification of foreign exchange earning sources, it reduces vulnerability to international price fluctuations, helps transition away from an energy-dependent economy, and contributes to the country's economic stabilization. This is expected to foster a more stable medium-to-long-term business and investment environment for Japanese companies. Furthermore, given Japanese companies' strengths in environmental technologies, energy-saving equipment, and resource recycling systems, future business collaboration is also anticipated.
(*Note) JICA has committed to investments up to USD 1.5 billion in the Trust Fund Achieving Development of Latin America and the Caribbean (TADAC). The Fund was established within the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the largest development finance institution in the Latin America and Caribbean region, and is managed by IDB Invest, the private sector investment arm of the IDB Group. TADAC provides co-financing alongside IDB Invest to support private sector initiatives aimed at achieving the SDGs. Through Private Sector Investment Finance (PSIF), JICA’s investment in TADAC aims to reduce the SDG financing gap in the region and contribute to its sustainable socioeconomic development.
