Primary objectives and outcomes
This event focused on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which account for a large portion of the global economy, and discussed their decarbonization.
Content of the discussions
- President Diaz pointed out that 99% of Colombia's businesses are small and medium-sized enterprises, and introduced examples of loans for introducing solar power generation and energy-efficient air conditioning equipment, as well as examples of capacity building. He also said that Bancoldex has borrowed from AFD, and that this project also contributes to climate change.
- Special Advisor to the JICA President, Dr. Muto stated that JICA's strength is that a wide range of cooperation from technical cooperation to financial cooperation. She introduced examples of support for SMEs, such as technical cooperation and financial cooperation together with intermediary financial institutions in Bangladesh, Mongolia, and Nigeria, as well as Kaizen cooperation for end user SMEs.
- AFD's Mr. Delhomme introduced a case of support for the textile industry through a credit line for a Moroccan bank, and said that 40% of AFD's climate funds are provided to SMEs. He also said that some companies in the textile industry have sustainability as part of their management strategy, and that AFD is engaging with various companies. AFD also provides technical support to entrepreneurs and agriculture, and supports decarbonization.
