18 tons of emergency relief supplies from Japan arrived at Damascus airport on February 15

Following the earthquake occurred on February 6 in the Syrian Arab Republic, the emergency relief supplies provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) arrived in the capital Damascus on February 15.

The earthquake hit the northwestern part of the country, which borders Turkey. According to UN agencies, 1,414 people were killed, 4 million people were affected, and 2 million people are still in serious condition in the Syrian Arab Republic. Amid the complicated regional situation, many people have reportedly been left behind without assistance. (2/15 OCHA Situation Report)

The donated emergency relief supplies were handed over at 3:30PM (local time) on February 15 at the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) warehouse in the presence of Eng. Khaled Hboubati, the President of SARC, Mr. Hirofumi Miyake, Chargé d'Affaires of the Japanese Embassy in Syria, and the local representatives of JICA Syria Office, and will be distributed to the victims through SARC.
