The PNG Power Sector Forum was co-organized by the government of PNG and Asian Development Bank (ADB) on the 3 April 2025 Thursday at APEC Haus, Port Moresby.

The panel members from the left are Dr. Cate Rogers, Minister Counsellor Economics, Health and Infrastructure, Australian High Commission, Mr. Koney Samuel, Secretary, Department of National Planning and Monitoring and Mr. Matsuoka Hideaki, Chief Representative, JICA.

The Prime Minister, Hon. James Marape with the delegates from the government of PNG, development partners and private partners at APEC Haus.

The forum was held to discuss best practices and planning to ensure low-cost development and delivery of reliable and affordable electricity which aligns with the climate targets, development strategy and financial sustainability in PNG.

The Chief Representative of JICA, Mr. MATSUOKA Hideaki was one of the panel members involved in the discussion on the benefits of an integrated power sector plan and the role of a unified plan in helping to overcome challenges in PNG for long-term energy security and growth. He highlighted the key aspects of human capacity development and collaboration with both government and private partners as a way forward to adapt and collectively address the challenges in energy sector and find solutions which aligns with the vision 2050 and the Medium-Term Development Plan IV 2023 – 2027.

JICA will continue to support the PNG Power sector with the development partners.
