The JICA Chair was held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG) for the fourth year welcoming Prof. Kato Hiroshi, the Vice President of the International University of Japan, once again, following his visit last year. He delivered lectures at two locations.

The first lecture took place on Thursday 24th April, at Lamana Hotel, targeting PNG government officials, with the topic "Japan’s Development Experience and PNG-Japan Cooperation through ODA." The second lecture was held on the following day, Friday 25th April, at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG), under the title "Japan’s Modernization Process: What does it mean to PNG?".

This year was the first time for the JICA Chair Program to include a special lecture for PNG government officials.
In addition to covering the background and history of Japan’s modernization, Prof. Kato introduced Japan’s development philosophy during his lecture. The sessions were followed by interactive question-and-answer and opinion exchanges sessions.
