Pre-Departure Reception for JDS PNG Fellows!!

On 22 July 2025, the Pre-Departure Reception for PNG Fellows was held for the Project on Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS). The JDS is a grant aid project implemented by JICA.
Department of National Planning and Monitoring and JICA signed the Grant Agreement for this project on 22nd August 2024. Based on the agreement, the project begin with screening of applicants jointly with the Operating Committee (OC) members.
Through the very rigorous selection processes, 14 applicants including 4 females were finally selected. They are from Department of Treasury, Department of Finance, Department of Prime Minister & National Executive Council, Department of Justice & Attorney General, Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary, and Climate Change and Development Authority.
Also, last year was the 50th Anniversary of Japan’s Official Development Assistance to Papua New Guinea. In the last 5 decades, JICA has accepted nearly 5,000 PNG Government officials in both long-term and short-term training programs in Japan. These trainees have improved their skills and knowledge in various sectors to contribute to the social and economic development of PNG. Furthermore, they have been also contributing to the strong ties between the two countries. A lot of former participants have played key roles in the government.
At last, these scholars will study abroad in Japan for around 2 years from next month!
They are expected to become future leaders of this country through learning public policy, public finance, international relations, climate change and environmental protection, too!
