JICA Provides 75,000 Masks to Schools in Addis

JICA, upon the request of the Ministry of Education, Addis Ababa Education Bureau, agreed to assist with the provision of 75,000 washable facemasks for students. 15,000 masks are being distributed to the following Sub-Cities this week: Bole, Gulele, and Kolfe-Keranyo; while Arada and Kirkos sub-cities received their masks last week.

Upon receiving the masks, the respective Sub-city education officials extend their gratitude to JICA on behalf of the students at the various schools.

In-person learning resumed in Ethiopia in November after being closed for almost 10 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Doors opened with strict instructions from the Ministry of Health for students to wear masks at all times and for the schools to implement all the necessary safety protocols. We believe that this will support many schools as they continue to apply COVID-19 precautions

It is to be recalled that during the pandemic JICA volunteers also provided schools with posters directed at maintaining proper hygiene, wearing masks properly, as well as step-by-step instructions on how to make masks at home.
