Terms of Use

Article 1 (Specification of The JICA Ogata Research Institute E-mail Alert)

The JICA Ogata Research Institute E-mail Alert (hereinafter referred to as the “E-mail Alert”) is a electronic E-mail Alert published by the JICA Ogata Research Institute operated under the Independent Administrative Institution Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This E-mail Alert is, in principle, delivered to electronic mail addresses of users who applied to the JICA Ogata Research Institute for subscription thereof in accordance with due procedures as specified by the JICA Ogata Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as “users”) free of charge.

Article 2 (On Terms of use)

The “Terms of use” stipulate provisions on the use of this E-mail Alert. Those who want to subscribe to the E-mail Alert shall, with consent to the “Terms of use” provided herewith, apply for subscription. In addition, the “Terms of use” can, as circumstances demand, be subject to change without prior notice. Please be advised that users are deemed to have confirmed the latest “Terms of use” as posted, upon being renewed from time to time, on the website of the JICA Ogata Research Institute.

Article 3 (Application for subscription)

  • (1) Those who wish to subscribe to the E-mail Alert may apply for subscription in accordance with due procedures as specified by the JICA Ogata Research Institute.
  • (2) Computers, communications equipment and other equipment for subscribing to the E-mail Alert shall be prepared by users at their own cost and responsibility. Furthermore, even if communications failures caused by incompatibility should occur between said equipment and equipment possessed by the JICA Ogata Research Institute, the JICA Ogata Research Institute shall not be liable to establish communications between these equipment.
  • (3) In cases where descriptions registered upon application for subscription have changed, users shall follow the due procedures for changing said descriptions without delay.
  • (4) Users may freely cancel the subscription to the E-mail Alert through notice via the website of the JICA Ogata Research Institute.

Article 4 (On copyrights)

  • (1) All copyrights of the E-mail Alert are reserved by the JICA Ogata Research Institute.
  • (2) Content of the E-mail Alert is protected by the Copyright Act of Japan. Part or all of the content shall not be reprinted, reproduced, altered, broadcast, distributed or republished without prior consent.
  • (3) The E-mail Alert is delivered only for private-purpose use. Thus, the E-mail Alert shall neither be used nor resold for business-purpose use.

Article 5 (Restrictions)

Only individual users may apply for subscription to the E-mail Alert. No user may apply for subscription to the E-mail Alert for business-purpose use, nor through addresses of electronic mailing lists.

Article 6 (Suspension of delivery)

  • (1) The E-mail Alert is subject to suspension or discontinuance at the JICA Ogata Research Institute’s discretion.
  • (2) The JICA Ogata Research Institute shall be exempted from any liability caused by such suspension or discontinuance of delivery of the E-mail Alert.
  • (3) The JICA Ogata Research Institute may, for such justifiable grounds as maintenance and/or management of servers and/or software, or force majeure, disaster or labor dispute, suspend delivery of the E-mail Alert.
  • (4) In cases where users contravene the “Terms of use,” the JICA Ogata Research Institute may suspend delivery of the E-mail Alert to said users without prior notice.
  • (5) In cases where users provide false information upon applying for subscription to the E-mail Alert or changing matters of registration, the JICA Ogata Research Institute may suspend delivery of the E-mail Alert to said users without prior notice.
  • (6) In cases where deliveries of the E-mail Alert to addresses designated by users have failed two or more times, the JICA Ogata Research Institute may suspend delivery of the E-mail Alert to said users.

Article 7 (Exemption from responsibility)

  • (1) The JICA Ogata Research Institute shall not be responsible for all results emanating from use of the content on the E-mail Alert.
  • (2) The JICA Ogata Research Institute shall not guarantee completeness, accuracy or any aspect of the information on delivered E-mail Alerts.
  • (3) The JICA Ogata Research Institute shall not be responsible for delay/failure in delivery of the E-mail Alert, and for all results emanating therefrom.
  • (4) The JICA Ogata Research Institute shall not be responsible for cases where users have caused damages to a third party by providing false information upon application for subscription to the E-mail Alert.

Article 8 ( Handling of personal information)

  • (1) Personal information registered when users applied for subscription to the E-mail Alert and changed when users changed registered matters shall be handled in compliance with the “Act on the Protection of Personal Information Held by Independent Administrative Agencies, etc.” (Act No. 59 of May 30, 2003).
  • (2) Personal information registered when users applied for subscription to the E-mail Alert and changed when users changed registered matters shall be managed by the JICA Ogata Research Institute. The JICA Ogata Research Institute shall, in principle, not disclose or provide said information to a third party, except in cases when as otherwise required to disclose or provide said information in compliance with the provisions of the preceding Act.
  • (3) Regarding users’ own personal information pertaining to this service, users may confirm, change, correct and delete such information by themselves through use of a relevant form availed on the website of the JICA Ogata Research Institute.

Article 9 (Others)

In cases where users designated electronic mail addresses of mobile telephones, etc. as addresses for delivery of the E-mail Alert, the E-mail Alert may not be delivered completely due to limitations on the number of characters, etc.

(Supplementary provisions)

The “Terms of use” herewith shall come into force as from October 1, 2009. Last modified: June 1, 2015.
